The Kansas City Chiefs were able to get back into the win column in Week 15 against the New England Patriots. They went on the road and picked up a 27-17 victory, pushing their record to 9-5 on the season and giving them a two-game cushion in the AFC West.

While it was nice to get the win, it was far from a perfect performance from the Chiefs. Head coach Andy Reid even admitted to making some mistakes with his game planning prior to the game.

Speaking after the victory, Reid said that he needs to do a better job of getting wide receiver Richie James Jr. involved in the offense. James played only two snaps against the Patriots, something Reid said he needs to change going forward.

“He’s gotta play more than two snaps,” Reid said during his press conference on Monday, December 18. “That’s my responsibility on that, I didn’t have him in enough on stuff. He’s a good football player though.”

James, who was signed as a free agent this offseason after putting together a career season with the New York Giants in 2022, has played sparingly for the Chiefs this season. He has dealt with injuries, playing in only six games this season.

However, since being activated from injured reserve on November 18th, Reid and the coaching staff haven’t gotten him involved a ton. Leading into the matchup against the Patriots, James was on the field for only nine, four and 11 snaps in the three games he has been activated.

Given the lack of production behind rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice, it is surprising that the Chiefs haven’t made a more concerted effort to get James involved. With the Giants last season, he proved to be a capable playmaker, catching 57 passes for 569 yards and four touchdowns.

With Skyy Moore heading to injured reserve, James should move up the depth chart. Desperate for someone at the position to make a play, it would not be surprising if James’ opportunities rose in Week 16 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
