Bears Could Pursue Bill Belichick In 2024 NFL Offseason?

Could the Chicago Bears represent a potential destination for New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick this offseason? Ryan Dunleavy of The New York Post seems to think so.

Belichick and the Patriots could be headed for a divorce, so many are already speculating in possible landing spots for the legendary coach.

While the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Chargers seem to be the most popular choices at the moment, there are those who see darkhorse candidates. Like Dunleavy with the Bears.

Dunleavy notes that Chicago will most likely hold the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft this spring (via the Carolina Panthers) plus another possible top-10 pick of their own. The Bears could also trade quarterback Justin Fields to bring in some more draft choices. That would provide Belichick with plenty of ammunition to facilitate a rather quick rebuild.

Of course, whether or not Belichick would actually want to start from the ground up at this point is debatable.

Belichick is 71 years old, and he has endured one heck of a difficult time attempting to rebuild the Patriots following the departure of Tom Brady in March 2020. Since Brady left via free agency, New England has made just one playoff appearance and has gone 28-36.

Taking that into consideration, it stands to reason that Belichick would probably prefer to join a team that already has the pieces in place to contend—like the Cowboys. Heck, even the Chargers would represent a decent destination given the fact that they have Justin Herbert under center.

The Bears are just 5-9 this season and have made just two trips to the playoffs since 2011, so they may not exactly be Belichick’s top choice.

Now in his 24th season as Pats head coach, Belichick has led the franchise to six Super Bowl championships, nine Super Bowl appearances and 17 AFC East division titles.

However, with the Patriots just 3-11 this season, rumor has it that the marriage between Bill Belichick and the Patriots franchise could be coming to an end.
