Browns GM Makes Bold Statement On Joe Flacco’s Future

Cleveland Browns general manager, Andrew Berry, is contemplating the possibility of re-signing quarterback Joe Flacco following the veteran’s significant contribution to the Browns’ playoff run.

Berry’s goal is to secure a backup for Deshaun Watson in the 2024 season.

“We’d absolutely love to have Joe back. He’s a good quarterback.”

Flacco, who celebrated his 39th birthday on January 16th, joined the Browns as a free agent after Watson’s season-ending shoulder injury. Prior to Flacco’s arrival, P.J. Walker and rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson had shared the starting quarterback duties.

During the regular season, the Browns posted an impressive 4-1 record with Flacco at the helm. He showcased his skills by throwing for over 300 yards in each of the last four games, all resulting in victories.

This remarkable feat set a franchise record for consecutive 300-plus yard passing games. Flacco’s overall statistics for the season included a 60.3 percent completion rate, 1,616 passing yards, 13 touchdown passes, and eight interceptions.

However, Cleveland’s postseason journey came to an end when they faced the Houston Texans on January 13th, falling short with a final score of 45-14. During that playoff game, Flacco threw for 307 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

Berry drew parallels between Flacco’s situation and the 2022 season, when Jacoby Brissett took over as the starting quarterback while Watson served an 11-game suspension. Brissett’s impressive performance during that season led to his signing with the Washington Commanders in 2023.

Berry emphasized that considerations of availability and cost play a significant role in shaping the team’s roster decisions. Joe Flacco seems likely to end up being back with the Browns.
