In his return to the playoff scene, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is determined to make a statement. It’s been a journey for him since his last playoff appearance when a severe arm injury forced him into a handoff role during the NFC Championship Game.
However, as he prepares to face the Green Bay Packers this Saturday, he’s eager to convey a message.
In an interview with 49ersWebzone.com via ProFootballTalk, Purdy expressed his excitement about being back in the playoffs, especially after a full year of playing games. This is in stark contrast to last year when he was inserted into the lineup midway through the season.
“So those are all things that were sort of on my plate last year, and then obviously trying to win every single week and get this team to the end. And so now, I guess this year, just being more familiar with the offense, who I am and all that, it’s a little different. But it’s good to sort of watch the games from last year and sort of remember just the feeling and the emotions of playing in a playoff game. It’s good. It’s huge for me as a quarterback to go back to those moments and sort of remember what it feels like. So those are things that I’m sort of banking on.”
Despite initial concerns that he might require an entire year to recover from his injury, Purdy made a remarkable comeback in time for the season’s kickoff. Throughout the season, he demonstrated his prowess as a starter, boasting an impressive record of 12 wins and 4 losses, along with 4,280 yards passing and 31 touchdowns.
While the 49ers enjoy the advantage of homefield throughout the playoffs for the second consecutive year, recent events, such as the Green Bay Packers’ victory over the Dallas Cowboys, have shown that homefield advantage alone may not suffice.
To avenge last year’s playoff loss and secure a spot in the Super Bowl, Brock Purdy understands that his top priority must be to stay injury-free. It’s a goal he’s determined to achieve as he leads his team in this crucial postseason journey.
