According to NBA insider Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Los Angeles Lakers are expected to acquire Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks.

D’Angelo Russell will likely be traded by the Lakers.

The Hawks don’t want to acquire Russell since they have Trae Young. It will be interesting to see where the Lakers trade Russell, who has a player option for next season worth $18.7 million. D’Lo is making $17.3 million this season.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Dejounte Murray, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Lakers Updates

The Hawks wants two first-round picks and a starting-level player for Murray, who is averaging 21.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.3 blocks this season while shooting 46.8% from the floor, 38.7% from beyond the arc and 83.5% from the free-throw line. The Seattle native and Washington product is making $17.7 million.

Murray signed a four-year, $114 million extension with the Hawks last summer. He holds career averages of 14.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.3 blocks with the San Antonio Spurs and Hawks.

Murray, who has a close relationship with Lakers superstar LeBron James, made the 2017-18 All-Defensive Second Team and won the 2021-22 steals title with the Spurs.

Murray, LeBron and Anthony Davis have the same agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group. Lakers head coach Darvin Ham can start Murray, Austin Reaves, Jarred Vanderbilt, LeBron and Davis once the Murray trade goes through.

Murray doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract, so he can’t control where he gets traded. Multiple sources told NBA Analysis Network that Murray is excited about potentially getting traded to Los Angeles.
