Don’t underestimate the Miami Heat. Out of every team in the NBA, this organization has a way of over-performing. Chances are, whatever you think of the Heat, they’re a little better than you think.

Last year was no exception. The Heat squeaked into the play-in tournament. In the end, they’d advance to the NBA Finals. The Heat were title contenders, and we didn’t even know it.

In 2023-24, the Heat are competitive. They don’t necessarily look like title contenders. We shouldn’t underestimate them, but they could turn some heads if they made a win-now trade.

Could they make a move for Terry Rozier of the Charlotte Hornets?

NBA Trade Proposal: Miami Heat Land Charlotte Hornets’ Terry Rozier

Charlotte Hornets Receive: G Kyle Lowry, 2027 First-Round Pick (MIA), 2028 First-Round Pick (Swap – MIA)

Miami Heat Receive: G Terry Rozier, C Nick Richards

The Heat are one of the most storied franchises in NBA history. That’s especially impressive, considering how long they’ve been in the league.

The Heat are not one of the league’s oldest franchises – they came into the NBA when it expanded in 1988. That happens to be exactly when the Hornets joined the NBA.

Unfortunately, they haven’t had the same success as the Heat. For whatever reason, the Hornets have generally failed to launch since entering the league.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Terry Rozier, Charlotte Hornets, Miami Heat Updates

This iteration of Hornets basketball is no exception. Yet, there’s plenty to be excited about in Buzz City. LaMelo Ball looks like a franchise player when healthy, and Brandon Miller is having a strong rookie year.

Is it the right time to move Rozier?

Why The Charlotte Hornets Do The Deal

There’s plenty to be excited about in Charlotte as far as the future is concerned. The present is bleak. This is one of the worst teams in the NBA.

With that in mind, it would make sense to sell. Here, they’d be selling high. Rozier is having a fantastic season. Moving him for an unprotected first and swap rights would be a sensible decision for the Hornets.

This isn’t a rebuild – it’s a retool. The Hornets can enter the 2024-25 season with win-now ambitions. They could make a significant acquisition this summer.

On the other hand, 2023-24 is lost. Should the Heat be buyers at this year’s deadline?

Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal

Part of the Heat’s success has been its location. It’s easy to draw stars to Miami. The Heat can land marquee free agents, and when stars want to be traded, they’re happy to land on the Heat.

Yet, the Heat came up short this summer. They were linked to Damian Lillard. Next, they were linked to Jrue Holiday. This team is a guard away from real title contention. The Heat ought to strike at the deadline and acquire that guard.

Why not Rozier? His ability to attack the rim should perfectly fit Miami’s drive-and-kick system. Meanwhile, Richards is the capable backup big man that the Heat need. If they make this deal, don’t make the mistake of underestimating them.
