Former Villanova teammates Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart shared a light-hearted moment after the New York Knicks’ resounding victory over the Philadelphia 76ers during Friday’s NBA action. Hart, contributing 10 points and 15 rebounds with a remarkable plus-46, was playfully nudged into the spotlight by Brunson.

Brunson, undaunted by his teammate’s success, joked, “I could care less,” but his smile revealed the camaraderie between the two. This bond was evident as the Knicks cruised to a 128-92 triumph on Friday night. Brunson led the team with 29 points, including four 3-pointers.

The Knicks’ performance was dominant, hitting 18 three-pointers and converting 24-25 free throws. The victory was further sweetened by the recent acquisition of OG Anunoby from Toronto, with Quentin Grimes scoring 19 points and Isaiah Hartenstein adding 17 to contribute to the win. Donte DiVincenzo also shone with 14 points.

Brunson praised the team’s quick adaptation and cohesion, emphasizing the need to keep improving.

“The way we’ve been able to gel so fast, it’s been great,” Brunson said. “We’ve just got to continue to get better.”

For the 76ers, Joel Embiid, who twisted his left knee early in the game, managed to score 30 points and grab 10 rebounds, continuing his record-breaking streak. However, the Knicks’ early lead and energetic fan support turned the game into one-sided.

Hart and Brunson’s chemistry was noticeable both on and off the court, as they were seen chatting on the scorer’s table during a timeout. Hart humorously suggested making more trades to maintain their post-trade momentum, perhaps with futuristic 2040 picks.

“We’re a pretty good post-trade team,” Hart said. “Maybe we can make some more trades. No one in here. Maybe some 2040 picks or something like that. Keep it rolling until the trade deadline until we can’t do it anymore.”

Miles McBride contributed 15 points for the Knicks, with two crucial three-pointers in the final moments of the first quarter. Brunson played exceptionally well in the familiar arena, scoring 16 points in the second quarter alone.

The 76ers, missing Tobias Harris due to ankle soreness, struggled with 14 turnovers. Tyrese Maxey led the team with 27 points. Philadelphia coach Nick Nurse lamented the team’s difficulty in scoring, citing issues with three-pointers, free throws, and layups.

“I don’t think we took them lightly,” Maxey said. “They just hit us in the mouth at the end of that first (quarter).”
