The Dallas Mavericks likely won’t trade for Toronto Raptors star Pascal Siakam, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

The Mavericks’ trade interest in Siakam is “overstated.”

“The Dallas Mavericks have indeed registered some exploratory trade interest in Siakam, league sources say, but one source over the weekend described their interest to me as overstated,” Stein wrote. “The Mavericks are indeed hoping to upgrade at the four spot, I’m told, but my sense is Siakam is not atop their wish list.”

The Mavericks are led by Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, two of the best players in the NBA. A “Big 3” of Doncic, Irving and Siakam would look good on paper, but it sounds like from Stein’s reporting that Dallas isn’t actively pursuing Siakam.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Pascal Siakam, Toronto Raptors, Dallas Mavericks Updates

Siakam becomes an unrestricted free agent after this season. Many people around the NBA believe the Raptors will trade the All-Star swingman before the trade deadline in February after trading OG Anunoby to the New York Knicks.

A two-time All-Star, Siakam is averaging 21.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.2 blocks this season while shooting 51.2% from the field, 26.1% from beyond the arc and 74.6% from the free-throw line. The NBA champion is making $37.9 million.

Any team that trades for Siakam this season can only offer him a two-year extension. Siakam, if he’s traded, is unlikely to sign an extension.

Along with the Mavericks, the Atlanta Hawks, Sacramento Kings, Memphis Grizzlies and Indiana Pacers have been linked to a Siakam trade with the Raptors.
