Los Angeles Clippers point guard Russell Westbrook believes he’s playing elite NBA defense right now.

After the Clippers defeated the Dallas Mavericks, Westbrook issued a strong statement on his defense while speaking to reporters.

The Clippers are the hottest team in the NBA right now. They have won nine games in a row.

Westbrook is averaging 8.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 0.2 steals and 1.2 blocks during the nine-game winning streak while shooting 50.0% from the field, 38.5% from beyond the arc and 50.0% from the free-throw line.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Russell Westbrook, Los Angeles Clippers Updates

Westbrook has never made an All-Defensive team during his Hall of Fame career. It will be fascinating to see if the nine-time All-Star makes one of the two All-Defensive teams this season.

The 35-year-old Westbrook is averaging 11.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.5 blocks for the Clippers this season. The UCLA product, who comes off the bench, is shooting 45.9% from the floor, 27.0% from 3 and 60.6% from the foul line.

The Clippers are 17-10 on the season. They are in fourth place in the Western Conference standings. With Westbrook, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and James Harden leading the way, LAC looks like a legitimate title contender under head coach Tyronn Lue.

Westbrook, who has never won a title, needs to be praised more for accepting his bench role with the Clippers. The former MVP volunteered to come off the bench so that Harden could mesh with the first unit better.
