One NBA writer is proposing that the Golden State Warriors acquire Harrison Barnes from the Sacramento Kings.

Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Warriors and Kings:

The Deal: Draymond Green for Harrison Barnes, JaVale McGee, a 2024 second-round pick and a 2025 second-round pick (via Portland)

Barnes began his career with the Warriors. He was the seventh overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft out of UNC. In the wake of Green being suspended indefinitely, Bailey thinks the Warriors should look to reunite with Barnes.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Harrison Barnes, Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors Updates

“Bringing him back would represent a downgrade in the Warriors’ defense and offensive versatility, but he can still guard multiple positions and has been a reliable deep threat for most of his career,” Bailey wrote. “Since the start of 2018-19, he’s hit 38.7 percent of his threes. He’d obviously have some familiarity with Curry, Thompson and Steve Kerr’s system without bringing any of the drama that’s plagued Green’s career.”

The Warriors could start Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Barnes and Kevon Looney. Barnes is a more talented offensive player than Green, who has started counseling and is expected to remain sidelined via suspension for at least the next three weeks, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Barnes is averaging 11.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists this season while shooting 48.3% from the field, 38.9% from beyond the arc and 83.0% from the free-throw line. The 31-year-old is making $17 million.

Barnes has career averages of 14.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists with the Warriors, Dallas Mavericks and Kings. He helped Golden State win the 2015 championship over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Warriors are 12-14 on the season. They are in 11th place in the Western Conference standings. Most NBA observers believe Golden State’s front office needs to make a trade for the team to get into the playoff picture.
