The Detroit Pistons are interested in acquiring OG Anunoby from the Toronto Raptors, according to NBA insider James L. Edwards III of The Athletic.

The Pistons are in the market for a forward.

“League sources tell The Athletic that Detroit is expected to be active in the trade market over the next few weeks and are eying a forward,” Edwards III wrote in his NBA trade column. “One player I’m hearing that the Pistons are interested in, as is the rest of the league, is Toronto’s OG Anunoby. However, it’s possible Detroit will wait to see if it can land Anunoby in the open market next summer — the two-way wing has a player option for next season that he’ll most certainly decline — and avoid giving up some of its young players.”

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: OG Anunoby, Toronto Raptors, Detroit Pistons Updates

Anunoby is one of the best two-way players in the NBA. For the Raptors this season, he’s averaging 15.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steals while shooting 48.0% from the field, 39.0% from beyond the arc and 68.4% from the free-throw line.

Anunoby has a player option for next season. He’s expected to decline it and enter unrestricted free agency after this season. The talented swingman has career NBA averages of 11.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 steals.

The Pistons have the worst record in the NBA. They are 2-23 on the season. Detroit has lost 22 games in a row. It’s surprising that the front office wants to make a blockbuster trade considering the team is headed for another losing season.

Along with Anunoby, the Pistons are also looking at Philadelphia 76ers forward Tobias Harris, who used to play for Detroit.
