After winning 51 games last season, the Cleveland Cavaliers have struggled this season. They are only 13-12 despite having three All-Stars in Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen.

The Cavaliers are 25th in the NBA in points per game. They are averaging only 110.5 points. Mitchell, one of the best players in the league, remains confident that Cleveland can turn things around.

“We have the pieces,” Mitchell told Heavy Sports. “I think it’s just a matter of getting on the same page as a group. You know, at the end of the day I can sit here and give you all these answers, but we’ve got to go out there and put the consistency of work in, you know, in games. We put the work in in our off time, but all of us collectively as players and coaches, we’ve all got to get on the same page. I think it’s just something we’ve got to find a way to do.”

Mitchell is averaging 27.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists on the season while shooting 45.5% from the field, 34.5% from beyond the arc and 87.9% from the free-throw line. The four-time All-Star is not deflated despite the Cavaliers not playing well.

“But I’m not deflated,” Mitchell said. “We’ve got to figure this thing out. That’s it. That’s all you can really do. Find ways. That’s it. It’s tough obviously, you know, winning a few, losing a few, but we’re not going to quit. We’re going to keep going.”

In November 2020, Mitchell signed a five-year, $163 million extension with the Utah Jazz. He’s making $32.6 million this season and will make $34.8 million in 2024-25.
