The Golden State Warriors offered Klay Thompson a two-year, $48 million extension, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Thompson, who becomes an unrestricted free agent after this season, didn’t accept the Warriors’ offer.

“As The Athletic reported right before the season, contract negotiations between Thompson and the Warriors stalled over salary and length of an extension being discussed,” Charania wrote. “I’m told the Warriors were offering Thompson a two-year deal in the range of $48 million before the season. Thompson, who turns 34 in February, is making $43.2 million this season and will be a free agent this summer.”

Thompson is really struggling this season for the Warriors. The five-time All-Star is averaging 15.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 39.7% from the field, 34.3% from beyond the arc and 88.9% from the foul line.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Klay Thompson, Golden State Warriors Updates

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr benched Thompson late in the fourth quarter against the Phoenix Suns on December 12. Thompson didn’t look happy on the bench after not getting subbed back into the game, but he told Warriors reporters postgame that he understood why he wasn’t put back in.

“I deserved to be benched tonight,” Thompson said while speaking to Warriors reporters. “I played like crap. If you’ve ever played basketball before, you know what you’re capable of. You always want to be out there competing. That’s just facts. Whatever though. It happens. I deserved to be benched. I’ve been playing like crap.”

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Klay Thompson, Golden State Warriors Updates

The Warriors are 10-13 on the season. They are in 11th place in the Western Conference standings.

Thompson looks washed, Draymond Green keeps getting in trouble with officials and Andrew Wiggins has looked like a below-average player. The Warriors’ dynasty is ending right in front of our eyes and it’s possible this could be Thompson’s final year in Golden State.
