Clippers Could Trade PJ Tucker

Veteran forward PJ Tucker is not happy with his role on the Los Angeles Clippers, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Tucker has expressed frustration about his current situation with the Clippers and both sides are discussing ways to resolve a role for him in LA or somewhere else.

The Clippers acquired Tucker from the Philadelphia 76ers in the blockbuster James Harden trade. Tucker is averaging 1.2 points and 2.4 rebounds with the Clippers while shooting 28.6% from the field and 27.3% from beyond the arc in 14.4 minutes per game.

Multiple contending teams are monitoring the Tucker situation in LA. Tucker is making $11 million this season. He has a player option worth $11.5 million for the 2024-25 season.

The 38-year-old Tucker has career NBA averages of 6.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.3 blocks with the Toronto Raptors, Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, Sixers and Clippers. He helped the Bucks win the 2021 championship over the Suns in six games.

The Clippers are 11-10 on the season. They are only 4-8 with Tucker in the lineup. LAC is in ninth place in the Western Conference standings. The team started the Harden era 0-5 before getting things together. The Clippers are now 8-8 with Harden.

It will be fascinating to see what happens with Tucker. If his role on the Clippers doesn’t change, Tucker could be waived or traded. The trade deadline is in February.
