ESPN recently spoke about how each team in the NBA could nail their offseason. What would the Los Angeles Lakers need to do to achieve this?

After winning in the play-in game, the Los Angeles Lakers were handled rather easily by the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. The Lakers still have a lot of talent on their team with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but James isn’t getting any younger and the Lakers need to think about the future.

There has been a lot of speculation about what the Los Angeles Lakers will do this offseason, as they do have to worry about LeBron possibly leaving in free agency. Recently ESPN spoke about how the Lakers could nail this offseason, here’s what they had to say.

D’Angelo Russell exercising an $18.7 million player option rather than testing free agency would give the Lakers far more options in the trade market this summer.

As soon as they make the No. 17 pick in this month’s draft, the Lakers can trade that pick along with first-round picks in 2029 and 2031, which should be plenty to land Murray from the Hawks. If Los Angeles can use the 55th pick to draft Bronny James, helping persuade LeBron James to re-sign long-term this summer or extend after exercising his player option, all the better. — Kevin Pelton

Going after Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks makes a ton of sense for the Lakers if he’s available. Murray is a great young two-way guard, who would pair nicely with Davis in the future.

Also, drafting Bronny would likely guarantee that LeBron wouldn’t go anywhere. There isn’t much left in the NBA to accomplish for James at this stage in his career, as winning titles and playing with his son is just about it.

If the Los Angeles Lakers land Murray, they would have a solid roster heading into the season and could compete in the Western Conference.
