The Cleveland Guardians have released right-handed pitcher Javier Pedreanez, according to the MiLB transaction log.

The DSL CLE Mendoza affiliate listed the move on October 23, ending the Venezuelan’s short stint in the organization.

Pedreanez, born August 22, 2006, in Petare, Venezuela, signed with Cleveland as an undrafted free agent on January 15, 2025, for a modest $10,000 bonus.

The 5-foot-11, 159-pound righty was assigned to the Guardians’ Dominican Summer League Mendoza club and spent most of his first professional year on the 60-day injured list after being placed there in late May.

He returned in mid-September 2025 but saw limited action.

In 2026, Pedreanez appeared in four games for DSL CLE Mendoza, all in relief. He went 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA across 6.2 innings, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out four.

Those numbers produced a 1.05 WHIP and suggested a measure of control and effectiveness in limited exposure at the rookie level. At age 20, he remained a long-shot developmental arm with no upper-level experience.

The release is somewhat surprising given the solid, if tiny, sample.

Organizations often retain low-bonus international signings who post sub-2.00 ERAs in the Dominican Summer League, even in small workloads, to see whether the early results hold as they climb.

Pedreanez’s injury history may have factored into the decision, or the Guardians may simply have needed the roster spot as they continue reshaping the lower levels after a deep postseason run that ended in the ALCS.

Minor-league releases of this type are routine roster housekeeping, but the timing and the pitcher’s early success make it noteworthy.

Pedreanez is now a free agent and eligible to sign with any organization.

For a player with only a handful of professional innings and a recent injury, opportunities may be limited, yet the clean statistical line could attract interest from clubs looking for low-cost depth in their complex or Dominican systems.

Cleveland’s farm system remains deep in pitching at higher levels, so the loss of a DSL arm is unlikely to register as a significant setback.

Still, for Pedreanez, the release marks an abrupt end to his Guardians tenure after less than two full seasons in the organization.
