Green Bay Packers receiver Romeo Doubs remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol as of Tuesday afternoon, while cornerback Jaire Alexander’s status is still uncertain heading into Thursday night’s game against the Detroit Lions.
Doubs, who sustained a concussion on Nov. 24, and Alexander, who is dealing with an aggravated knee ligament injury, have both practiced on a limited basis over the last three days. However, their availability for Thursday remains unclear.
Head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed that Doubs is still navigating the NFL’s five-step return-to-play process. The final step involves full clearance for contact by the team and an independent neurological consultant.
While Doubs participated in Tuesday’s practice, he has yet to be fully cleared. With the game fast approaching, the Packers are hopeful but acknowledge the time constraints.
Alexander’s situation also remains unresolved.
The All-Pro cornerback hasn’t played since Nov. 17, when he logged only 10 snaps against the Chicago Bears before exiting with an aggravated PCL tear in his knee.
“We’ll have some more conversations,” LaFleur said Tuesday. “I want to go look at the tape, see where we’re at, talk to our coaches, talk to Ja, and see where we’re at.”
Given the Packers’ upcoming schedule, which includes extra rest following Thursday night’s game before facing the Seattle Seahawks next Sunday night, the team may opt to give Alexander more time to fully recover.
Earlier in the season, Alexander’s premature return resulted in a setback, costing both him and the team additional time without their star cornerback.
Green Bay will release its final injury report on Wednesday ahead of their trip to Detroit, where they’ll face a Lions team battling for NFC North supremacy. Whether Doubs and Alexander can suit up remains to be seen.
It will be interesting to see how the Green Bay Packers look this week. Facing off against the Lions will give them a major test.
They have played great over the past two games, dominating both the San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins, but Detroit is a different beast.
Hopefully, the Packers will be able to prove that they’re legitimate Super Bowl contenders and claw closer to the top of the NFC North with a huge road win.
