Green Bay Packers Receive Massive News Before Facing Steelers

The Green Bay Packers are set for a high-stakes road showdown in Week 8, traveling to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers and former franchise icon Aaron Rodgers.

For quarterback Jordan Love, who backed up Rodgers from 2020-2022, the primetime matchup carries extra weight. The team received a major boost on Saturday when star wide receiver Christian Watson was activated off injured reserve, clearing him to suit up Sunday night.

Watson has been sidelined since tearing his ACL in Week 18 of last season on a non-contact play. He returned to practice on Oct. 6, and Saturday’s activation officially makes him eligible for the 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff on NBC’s Sunday Night Football.

Injuries have limited Watson throughout his young career. He appeared in just nine games in 2023—his highest single-season total—and recorded 29 receptions for 620 yards. When healthy, however, he remains a deep-threat weapon ideally suited to stretch defenses alongside Love.

The Steelers’ pass defense, currently ranked 31st in the NFL (258.8 yards allowed per game), presents an inviting target. In Week 7 against Cincinnati, Pittsburgh surrendered 347 passing yards and three touchdowns to Joe Flacco.

Even if Watson’s snap count is managed, his mere presence should command a safety in coverage, creating wider rushing lanes for Josh Jacobs and unlocking explosive play-action opportunities.

All hands will be on deck when Love faces his predecessor under the Acrisure Stadium lights.

It will be interesting to see what kind of impact the dynamic wide receiver can make for Love and the Packers’ offense this week. He’s more than capable of being one of the best deep threats in the NFL.

Hopefully, he’s able to hit the ground running and be a big part of helping Green Bay move to 5-1-1 on the season.
