Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs was suspended for the team’s win over the Los Angeles Rams this past Sunday, but head coach Matt LaFleur isn’t expecting any issues in the future.
“It’s a pretty isolated incident,” LaFleur said, via Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. “This has not happened with him before and I don’t expect it to happen moving forward.”
Doubs skipped multiple practices last week due to dissatisfaction with his role. He has logged 12 catches for 169 yards in four games and has been targeted 20 times, which ranked behind fellow receivers Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks—both of whom had 22 targets—heading into Week 5.
The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Nevada, was selected by the Packers in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Doubs had a decent rookie campaign, catching 42 passes for 425 yards and three touchdowns. Then, last year, he displayed significant progress, hauling in 59 receptions for 674 yards and eight scores.
Given the fact that Green Bay has a crowded young receiving corps that also features Christian Watson and Bo Melton, it’s no surprise that targets are hard to come by.
It was really only a matter of time before someone started complaining about touches, and apparently, Doubs was the first to voice his displeasure.
Trade speculation has begun to circle around the Los Angeles native, but there has been no indication that the Packers are actually trying to move him.
The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 5, so Green Bay still has several weeks to decide what it wants to do with Doubs, who becomes eligible for a contract extension next offseason.
The Packers improved to 3-2 with their win over the Rams and will host the Arizona Cardinals next Sunday.
