The New York Giants have added veteran linebacker Malik Harrison to their practice squad, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

The move brings in a familiar face for new head coach John Harbaugh just days before the start of the 2026 regular season.

Harrison, who spent last year with the Pittsburgh Steelers after five seasons in Baltimore, becomes the latest former Raven to join Harbaugh in East Rutherford.

Harrison arrived in the NFL as a third-round pick out of Ohio State in 2020 and immediately showed he belonged. He played in every game as a rookie and recorded 44 tackles while contributing on special teams.

Over the next four years, he remained a reliable piece of Baltimore’s defense, appearing in 76 games and making 34 starts. Last offseason he signed a two-year deal with Pittsburgh.

A knee injury in Week 1 of 2025 cost him six games, but once he returned he started nine of the 11 contests he played and finished with 41 tackles.

At 28, Harrison is not expected to crack the Giants’ starting lineup immediately. New York has already remade its inside linebacker group by signing Tremaine Edmunds in free agency and drafting Arvell Reese fifth overall. The team also released longtime starter Bobby Okereke.

Those moves created a deeper and younger room, yet depth remains valuable in a position that sees heavy wear. Harrison’s experience and special-teams background give the Giants an emergency option they can elevate if injuries strike.

The signing also fits a broader pattern, as Harbaugh has quickly surrounded himself with players he knows well. Tight end Isaiah Likely and fullback Patrick Ricard both followed him from Baltimore.

New York heavily addressed its defensive line, as well.

The Giants traded away Dexter Lawrence, added veterans DJ Reader and Shelby Harris, drafted defensive tackle Bobby Jamison-Travis, and recently acquired C.J. Okoye from the Ravens. Harrison’s arrival continues that theme of familiarity and physicality.

New York finished 4-13 last season and has reached the playoffs only twice since 2012. The roster overhaul under Harbaugh is meant to change that trajectory. Harrison will not be the centerpiece of that effort, but he offers a known commodity who understands the coach’s expectations and can step in on short notice.

The Giants open the season at home against the Dallas Cowboys on September 13.
