Former New England Patriots offensive lineman Jordan Devey, who contributed to the team’s Super Bowl XLIX victory, has died. He was 38 years old.
Devey died by suicide, according to multiple reports. A GoFundMe page has been created to support his family in the aftermath. The page noted that Devey and his wife have four children together.
“Tragically, Jordan took his own life, leaving his family to navigate an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time,” the GoFundMe campaign read. “As they face the overwhelming emotional and financial challenges, including mounting medical expenses, the community is coming together to support Linsey and their children. The funds raised will help ease the financial burden, allowing them to focus on healing and moving forward without the added stress of immediate expenses.”
Devey was a native of American Fork, Utah. The 6-foot-7, 320-pound guard began his college football journey at Snow College. He later transferred to the University of Memphis, where he finished his collegiate career as a key member of the Tigers’ offensive line.
Devey entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent, initially signing with the Baltimore Ravens in 2013. He soon found himself with the New England Patriots for part of that same season and remained on the roster through the 2014 campaign.
After his time in New England, Devey had additional stints with the San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland and Las Vegas Raiders, and Buffalo Bills. His professional playing days came to a close following the 2020 season.
Across his NFL career, Devey appeared in 44 games and made 21 starts. He was part of the Patriots’ Super Bowl XLIX-winning team in 2015, a memorable championship run that ended with a victory over the Seattle Seahawks.
During that title-winning season, Devey started six games at left guard for New England, providing solid protection and run-blocking support for the offense.
Standing at an imposing 6-foot-7 and weighing 320 pounds, Devey brought size and strength to the interior of the offensive line wherever he played. His path from a Utah native to college contributor at Snow College and Memphis, and then to a Super Bowl champion, reflected a determined journey through the ranks of professional football.
The GoFundMe effort underscores the community response aimed at assisting his wife Linsey and their four children as they confront both emotional and financial difficulties in the wake of his passing.
Devey’s career included stops with six different franchises, highlighting his versatility and persistence as a guard who logged significant playing time over multiple seasons.
