Juwan Howard has quickly secured a new coaching role following his tenure at Michigan. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Brooklyn Nets have appointed Howard as an assistant coach for the 2024-25 NBA season, where he will be part of Jordi Fernandez’s coaching team.

Howard is familiar with the NBA coaching landscape, having previously served as an assistant coach under Erik Spoelstra with the Miami Heat for six seasons before his stint at Michigan starting in 2019.

As a former player, Howard had an extensive NBA career from 1994 to 2013, during which he won two championships and was named an All-Star in 1996.

His coaching career at Michigan included a notable run to the Elite Eight in 2021, which solidified his reputation as a sought-after coaching prospect in NBA circles. Despite this, Howard chose to remain with Michigan rather than pursue opportunities in the NBA at that time.

However, his last two seasons at Michigan were less successful, with the team achieving only 26 wins. Following these challenging seasons, Michigan opted for a change, bringing in Dusty May from FAU earlier this year to take over the head coaching duties.

This new role with the Nets could provide Howard with a valuable chance to enhance his coaching credentials and perhaps position himself for future opportunities in the NBA.
