Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Noah Brown has been released by the Las Vegas Raiders, just eight days after he signed with the Raiders before their final preseason game.
For Cowboys fans, the move is another reminder of how far the 2017 seventh-round pick traveled from a late-round project to a dependable piece of the offense.
Brown, 30, was selected 239th overall out of Ohio State and spent his first six NFL seasons in Dallas (2017-22), missing 2019 because of injury. He was never a star, but he lasted.
Early years were mostly special teams and spot duty. By 2020 and 2021 he was a reliable extra body. Then came 2022: 43 catches for 555 yards and three touchdowns in 16 games, with 13 starts, as he stepped into a larger role alongside CeeDee Lamb.
In five seasons with the Cowboys, he appeared in 66 games and finished with 82 receptions for 980 yards and three scores.
That 2022 tape earned him a look in Houston in 2023, where he posted a career-high 567 yards and 17.2 yards per catch.
He then joined former Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn in Washington, catching 35 passes for 453 yards in 2024 before injuries limited him to four games and 83 yards in 2025. Career totals stand at 91 games, 155 receptions, 2,083 yards and six touchdowns.
The Raiders brought him in Aug. 16 as veteran insurance for a thin, young receiver room. He appeared in one preseason game and caught one pass for 11 yards. It was not enough. Las Vegas cut him before the 53-man deadline, giving him a head start on finding the next landing spot.
From a Cowboys perspective, Brown’s story is familiar: late-round pick who stayed healthy enough, blocked well, and produced when given snaps.
He was never going to be a featured target in Dallas, but he filled a role on competitive rosters and left on good terms. Injuries have followed him since he left, which is why a one-week stay in Las Vegas ended so quickly.
Whether another team signs him before Week 1 is an open question. For Cowboys fans who remember the 2022 season, the news is less about the Raiders’ depth chart and more about a former Blue who carved out a longer career than many expected from a seventh-rounder.
Brown is a free agent again. The next chapter, if there is one, will not be in Dallas.
