Former College Star Takes Shot at Atlanta Hawks’ Zaccharie Risacher

The Atlanta Hawks were the surprise winners of the 2024 NBA Draft Lottery, earning the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. With that selection, they picked intriguing wing player Zaccharie Risacher.

Last season, Zaccharie Rissacher played for Bourg-en-Bresse. Standing 6’8” and weighing 204 pounds, he has the ideal frame that NBA teams are looking for in two-way forwards. That is the direction the game is going in; look at the leaders for the NBA Champion Boston Celtics this season.

There is a lot to like about the long-term prospects of Zaccharie Rissacher. The Atlanta Hawks are getting a scoring wing who has drawn professional comparisons to veterans Harrison Barnes and Michael Porter Jr.

He is very athletic, and his skills shine even more so on the defensive end. The Atlanta Hawks could shake up their roster in a big way by trading Trae Young or Dejounte Murray, but Zaccharie Risacher is someone who should fit alongside either player.

Along with Jalen Johnson and Onyeka Okongwu, the Atlanta Hawks have an intriguing core to build around for the future. However, there are some people who are surprised that he was the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

One of those people is former Kansas Jayhawks star, Frank Mason III. Mason, who was a second-round pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, played four seasons in the NBA.

He has played overseas for the last two seasons and played against Zaccharie Risacher. He offered a hot take on him as a player, throwing shade at the newest Atlanta Hawks player.

“Played this young guy in France this past season; no way he’s the number one pick in the NBA draft lol,  but I guess!” Mason said, via CBB Content on X.

That is quite a bold statement from Mason, who clearly wasn’t impressed by Zaccharie Risacher when they faced off against each other. The former Jayhawk likely isn’t the only person critical of the Atlanta Hawks No. 1 pick, as this was considered a weaker draft class overall.
