Caitlin Clark is rewriting the WNBA record books again, this time with a mark that combines scoring and playmaking in a way no player has sustained over a full season.
An analytics account highlighted the achievement Saturday, stating: “Caitlin Clark is on pace to be the first player in WNBA history to score/assist on 40+ PPG for a season.”
The accompanying graphic showed Clark responsible for 40.1 points per game this season through the combination of her own scoring and the points generated by her assists.
Through 30 games, the Indiana Fever guard is averaging 21.9 points and 8.3 assists. Those figures already place her among the league leaders in both categories and put her on a trajectory no previous player has matched in the points-scored-or-assisted metric.
Clark’s recent form has only accelerated the pace. In her last 10 games she has averaged 26.3 points and 9.4 assists, producing a points-plus-assists total of 35.7 per contest and pushing the broader creation number higher.
The Fever have gone 18-12 in the games she has started. Clark has recorded 11 double-doubles and one triple-double while shooting 45.0 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from three-point range and 85.6 percent from the free-throw line.
Her efficiency marks represent career bests in field-goal and three-point percentage. She is also averaging 3.9 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 0.6 blocks in 30.5 minutes per night.
The 24-year-old entered the league as the No. 1 overall pick in 2024 and immediately set the single-season assists record with 337. Injuries limited her to 13 games in 2025, when she still averaged 16.5 points and 8.8 assists.
This season she has returned healthier and more efficient, ranking near the top of the league in both scoring and assists while carrying a heavier offensive load for a Fever team that ranks first in offensive rating.
No WNBA player has ever finished a season averaging at least 20 points and eight assists. Clark is currently above both thresholds and is on course to clear the higher combined creation mark of 40 points scored or assisted per game.
Her teammates have benefited directly. The Fever rank near the top of the league in three-point percentage and overall scoring, reflecting the spacing and decision-making Clark creates with her passing.
Clark has already notched multiple 25-point, 10-assist games this season and holds several franchise and league records for such combinations. She became the first player in WNBA history to post 40 points and 10 assists in a single game earlier this summer.
With 10 games remaining in the regular season, maintaining the current averages would cement the unprecedented 40-plus mark. The Fever next face the Atlanta Dream on Sunday.
Clark’s combination of volume scoring and elite playmaking continues to set her apart even as the league’s overall offensive numbers rise. Teams are averaging more points than in previous seasons, yet no one else approaches her dual production.
If she sustains the pace, the 40.1 points scored or assisted will stand as another singular achievement in a career already filled with them.
