Eagles Legend Sounds Alarm on Potential Nick Sirianni Problem

Eagles legend DeSean Jackson questioned whether head coach Nick Sirianni has begun overriding offensive coordinator Sean Mannion after Philadelphia’s lopsided loss in Chicago.

Jackson made the comments this week on Kay Adams’ Up & Adams show. He said the early returns on Mannion looked promising before the most recent game.

“It’s always crazy cuz you get speculations…But I think through the first two weeks, it was pretty good. I just think this past game, I don’t know if Sirianni’s gettin’ his hands in the pot, and it’s steamin’ over,” Jackson said.

The former wide receiver pointed to reports he heard on Ike Reese’s radio show that Sirianni took a larger role in the offensive plan ahead of Monday night’s game against the Bears.

Philadelphia entered that contest at 2-0. The Eagles left Soldier Field at 2-1 after a 27-7 defeat.

The offense managed only 248 yards. It converted two of nine third downs and failed to score in the second half.

Andy Dalton, inserted while Jalen Hurts was checked for a concussion, threw an interception in the end zone on third-and-goal from the two yard-line. Mannion later said he wished he could have the call back.

Through three games the Eagles have scored 55 points and allowed 69. They rank near the bottom third of the league in total offense at 907 yards, or 302.3 per game.

Jackson said the first two weeks suggested Mannion had the unit on a workable track.

“I just feel like what we’ve seen, it was good. Sean Mannion, I think he’s a good offensive coordinator…I just think, what it comes down to what I see in the first two weeks, I liked what Sean Mannion was doin’,” Jackson said.

Mannion, hired after Kevin Patullo’s offense struggled in 2025, has accepted responsibility for the recent results. He said Thursday it is on him to build a better plan.

Injuries have compounded the issues. DeVonta Smith, who has 19 catches for 235 yards and a touchdown, was ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Rams with a hamstring injury and could miss additional time. Tight end Dallas Goedert is also sidelined.

Jackson closed by urging Sirianni to step back.

“I just think…This past week, I didn’t like the play calls of certain routes…I just hope he’s allowing Sean Mannion to come in there and do what he wants to do,” Jackson said.

Sirianni guided the Eagles to a Super Bowl title after the 2024 season. The current offense has yet to find the same consistency, ranking 25th in points per game at 18.3.

Philadelphia hosts the Rams on Sunday with several key skill players unavailable and questions lingering about who is calling the shots.
