The Los Angeles Dodgers have suffered a significant setback in their lineup, as one of their key offensive contributors will be sidelined for an extended period.

Manager Dave Roberts shared the news on Friday, confirming that outfielder Teoscar Hernández has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain. The team has not established a clear timeline for his recovery and return to action.

The injury occurred during Wednesday’s matchup against the Colorado Rockies. Hernández left the game after grounding out in what turned out to be his lone at-bat of the evening, happening early in the second inning.

This development represents a tough loss for the Dodgers at a critical time. Hernández had started showing positive signs at the plate, building momentum following a challenging stretch through much of May.

In the eight games leading up to the injury, he recorded a strong 10-for-28 performance at the dish, translating to a .321 batting average. During that span, he also contributed two home runs and drove in eight runs.

For the 2025 season overall, across 51 games, Hernández holds a slash line of .276/.348/.436. He has blasted seven home runs, notched 31 RBI, and posted an OPS of .784, making him a valuable presence in the middle of the order.

The timing of this hamstring issue adds to the challenges for Los Angeles, arriving just one day after another roster blow. Utility player Enrique Hernández landed on the injured list with a left oblique tear.

Enrique Hernández’s absence is particularly frustrating given his limited availability early in the campaign. He had only appeared in two games this season after beginning the year on the shelf while recovering from left elbow surgery that impacted much of his previous season.

To help fill the void in left field created by Teoscar Hernández’s absence, the Dodgers have promoted Ryan Ward and Alex Call from the minors. The pair is anticipated to split time in the outfield for the coming stretch.

Even with these personnel losses testing their depth, the Dodgers continue to hold a commanding 4.5-game lead in the NL West.

They now prepare to host the surging Philadelphia Phillies for a weekend series at Chavez Ravine, looking to maintain their strong position atop the division.
