The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled right-hander Paul Gervase and catcher Eliezer Alfonzo from Triple-A Oklahoma City in the days before their National League Division Series opener against the Atlanta Braves, adding depth to the 40-man roster without committing either player to the postseason club.
Neither team has released an official NLDS roster. Those lists are expected Saturday morning, ahead of Game 1 at Dodger Stadium.
The moves appeared on the Dodgers’ transaction log without a separate announcement. The entries read: “Los Angeles Dodgers recalled RHP Paul Gervase from Oklahoma City Comets.” They also read: “Los Angeles Dodgers recalled C Eliezer Alfonzo from Oklahoma City Comets.”
Club officials have not described either player as a lock for the active postseason roster. The recalls keep both available if injuries open a spot during the series.
Gervase, 26, has pitched 7.2 innings for Los Angeles this season across four appearances. He has eight strikeouts, five walks and a 2.35 ERA, according to a team release issued during an earlier call-up.
In 38 games with Oklahoma City, he went 3-1 with a 4.56 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 47.1 innings. He has a 3.38 ERA in 16 career major league innings over 10 games.
The 6-foot-10 right-hander was selected by the New York Mets in the 12th round of the 2022 draft out of LSU. He has moved between the majors and Triple-A several times this year, most recently returning to Oklahoma City on Sept. 16 before the latest recall on Sept. 28.
Alfonzo, also 26, has seen limited major league time. In an earlier September stint, the Dodgers listed him at 12 games with a .185 average, two doubles and four RBI. He was hitting .302 with two home runs and 25 RBI at Oklahoma City before that call-up.
He signed with the organization as a minor league free agent on Nov. 17, 2025. Other catchers already on the 40-man roster limit his path to regular playing time.
The Dodgers placed reliever Blake Treinen on the 15-day injured list on Sept. 27 with right shoulder inflammation and recalled Bobby Miller the same day. Edgardo Henriquez was activated from the injured list on Sept. 29.
Los Angeles finished the regular season at 100-62 and won the NL West. The club is seeking a third consecutive World Series title after championships in 2024 and 2025.
Game 1 against Atlanta is scheduled for 4 p.m. Eastern on Saturday on Fox. Game 2 is set for 8 p.m. Eastern on Sunday on FS1. The series shifts to Atlanta for Game 3 on Tuesday.
Atlanta advanced by winning a three-game Wild Card series against Philadelphia. The Braves will be without Spencer Strider and Spencer Schwellenbach, both out for the season.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has not announced his Game 1 starter. The club’s rotation ERA was 3.40 for the year, and the team ranked second in the majors with a .762 OPS.
Postseason rosters can be adjusted between series, but the initial NLDS lists must be set before the first pitch. Extra 40-man depth does not guarantee either Gervase or Alfonzo will be added if the series stays healthy.
The Dodgers swept their final regular-season series in San Francisco and enter October with home-field advantage for the first two games.
