The Los Angeles Dodgers are fortifying their organization by finalizing a trade with the Colorado Rockies to bring in right-handed reliever Seth Halvorsen, according to Jon Heyman of The New York Post.

The 26-year-old pitcher is slated to initially join the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate.

To complete the deal, Los Angeles is sending two prospects to Colorado: right-handed pitcher Nick Frasso and outfielder Landyn Vidourek. Vidourek was recognized as the No. 25 prospect in the Dodgers’ minor league system.

Because Los Angeles features a highly regarded pool of outfield prospects, the front office was able to deal from a position of relative depth to execute this trade.

Halvorsen was originally selected by the Rockies in the seventh round of the 2023 MLB Draft out of the University of Missouri and made his big-league debut the following year.

While he enjoyed immediate success in 2024 by recording a sharp 1.46 ERA over 12 1/3 frames, his production has encountered obstacles since.

He struggled with a 4.99 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP across 39 2/3 innings, and continued to fight command issues into the current campaign, where he pitched to a 4.74 ERA and a 1.95 WHIP over 19 innings prior to the trade.

However, Halvorsen is an intriguing prospect because of his high-90s fastball and his minor-league strikeout rate, as he has averaged 11.1 strikeouts per nine innings over the course of his minor-league tenure.

The Dodgers have tended to turn everything they touch to gold lately, so they clearly must see something in the hard-throwing righty to make such a deal.

By bringing Halvorsen into their player development pipeline, the Dodgers are betting on their coaching staff to help the hard-throwing right-hander recapture his early-career efficiency and provide valuable bullpen depth.

Los Angeles has won back-to-back World Series championships and could be on its way to a third.
