Recent Dallas Cowboys rumors are not going to make some people happy. According to ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter, star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb will not be present when the team opens their mandatory minicamp on Tuesday.
CeeDee Lamb has not been present at any of the Cowboys team activities this offseason as he seeks a contract extension. Up until this point, everything has been voluntary. Now that mandatory practices are beginning, he is subject to fines from the organization.
Lamb is set to play the 2024 season out on the fifth-year option on his rookie contract. That will pay him $17.991 million, but the Oklahoma product is seeking a lot more money than that. Without an extension, he will be an unrestricted free agent after the season.
Expect Cowboys rumors to pick up when it comes to the contract situation. On Monday, Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson landed his contract extension. It was historic, as he is now the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.
Only 15 quarterbacks in the league are making more annually than Jefferson will make over the span of his extension. That could be a deal that CeeDee Lamb looks to surpass or at least meet, coming off a historic season of his own.
In 2023, Lamb led the NFL with 135 receptions, setting the Cowboys’ franchise record. His 1,749 yards were also the most a Cowboys player has ever had. Through the first four seasons of his career, no one has produced at a higher level in Dallas history.
His 395 receptions and 5,145 yards are both records, along with the 18 100-yard games that he has recorded. CeeDee Lamb is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL and he is seeking an extension that compensates him as such.
These Cowboys rumors will be worth keeping an eye on. Lamb isn’t the only receiver looking to break the bank this summer, as Tee Higgins, Ja’Marr Chase and Brandon Aiyuk are all seeking big-money contracts as well.
