Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was putting on a clinic Thursday night in Detroit before a terrifying collision with the turf abruptly ended his evening and cast concern over the team’s playoff push.
Early in the third quarter, with Dallas trailing, Dak Prescott lofted a perfectly placed fade into the end zone. Lamb launched himself for what would have been a highlight-reel touchdown, but the ball sailed just out of reach.
Unable to get his hands down in time, the All-Pro receiver landed hard on the back of his head and shoulder on the Ford Field surface.
Medical staff rushed to Lamb’s side, helping him to his feet and escorting him straight to the locker room for evaluation. The 26-year-old finished his night with six receptions for 121 yards but did not return.
Lamb, who missed one game in 2021 after a concussion sustained against Kansas City, will now have to clear the league’s five-phase concussion protocol before he’s eligible to play again.
On Friday morning, the Cowboys’ WR1 broke his silence on Instagram with a short but powerful words.
“Blessed is an understatement. Love ya’ll,” Lamb wrote.
The injury came during a 44-30 defeat that snapped Dallas’ three-game winning streak and dropped the Cowboys to 6-6-1 on the season. With Lamb sidelined for the second half, the offense struggled to find rhythm.
George Pickens, thrust into the primary receiver role, drew criticism from fans and observers for what many perceived as lackluster effort on several plays. Meanwhile, rookie Ryan Flournoy stepped up in a major way, hauling in nine passes for 115 yards and a score in easily his most productive NFL game to date.
Dallas now turns the page to a critical stretch run. The Cowboys host the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football in Week 15 before closing the regular season against the Chargers, Commanders, and Giants — four very winnable games that will determine whether Mike McCarthy’s team can sneak into the postseason.
For now, all eyes in Dallas are on Lamb’s recovery and whether their best offensive weapon will be cleared in time to help fuel a late playoff charge.
