The Jacksonville Jaguars have released former Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna to add offensive line depth.
The move came as Jacksonville signed undrafted offensive lineman Timothy McKay while dealing with injuries along the offensive line. For Cowboys fans, it marks another stop on a journeyman path for a player Dallas drafted five years earlier.
Dallas selected Bohanna in the sixth round (192nd overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Kentucky. The 6-foot-4, 355-pound interior lineman was viewed as a classic space-eater—a true nose tackle built to occupy blockers and stuff the run.
At the time, the Cowboys were looking to add size and physicality up front after a season in which their run defense struggled.
Bohanna delivered two seasons of useful snaps in Dallas. As a rookie in 2021, he appeared in 14 games with one start and recorded 10 tackles. In 2022, he started nine of 13 games and posted 19 tackles. He was a two-down run defender who helped occupy the middle, even if he never developed into a consistent pass-rush threat.
The Cowboys moved on in August 2023. After drafting Mazi Smith in the first round and adding veteran Johnathan Hankins, Bohanna became expendable and was waived.
That began a familiar NFL cycle for many late-round defensive tackles. He spent time with the Detroit Lions (practice squad and a few games), Tennessee Titans, Seattle Seahawks (practice squad and brief active-roster stints), and Green Bay Packers (claimed off waivers then released).
Jacksonville signed him in June 2026 during OTAs as low-risk depth. Less than three months later, the Jaguars cut him.
Bohanna has now been released by several NFL teams. Across 40 career games and 13 starts, he has 44 tackles, three tackles for loss, and one quarterback hit.
He remains a massive presence given his massive size, but the league has shown limited patience for a specialist who offers little as a rusher or special-teams contributor.
From a Cowboys perspective, the 2021 sixth-round pick was a reasonable evaluation. Dallas got two seasons of rotational play from a big body at a low draft cost. Many similar prospects wash out even faster. Bohanna’s later stops illustrate how quickly the NFL discards players who don’t expand their roles.
For a franchise that has invested heavily in its defensive line over the years, his story is a reminder that not every late-round big man becomes a long-term piece. He may land on another practice squad, but the pattern of short stays is now well established.
