The Indianapolis Colts, boasting an impressive 6-1 record, are currently viewed as top contenders for the AFC championship in the NFL.

With their offense firing on all cylinders, the team is now focusing on strengthening their defensive lineup, potentially by adding a seasoned two-time Super Bowl champion.

According to various reports, the Colts recently evaluated several pass rushers during a workout session to improve their defense, including former Tampa Bay Buccaneers standout linebacker Shaq Barrett.

Barrett kicked off his NFL journey with the Denver Broncos, where he played from 2014 to 2018 and earned his first Super Bowl ring. He later joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he added a second Super Bowl title, secured two Pro Bowl selections, and received his only All-Pro honor.

Over the course of his 10-plus seasons in the NFL, Barrett has amassed 59 sacks, with a standout league-leading 19.5 sacks in the 2019 season.

After his stint with the Buccaneers, Barrett inked a deal with the Miami Dolphins in 2024. However, before the regular season began, he unexpectedly announced his retirement.

Barrett reversed his retirement decision in November 2024, but the Dolphins opted not to reintegrate him, choosing instead to waive him. He then rejoined the Buccaneers in December 2024, playing in just one game.

Despite a rocky 2024 season marked by his brief retirement and limited play with the Buccaneers, Barrett remains a capable pass rusher. The Indianapolis Colts could potentially sign him to a cost-effective deal to fortify a critical component of their defense.
