Colts Land New Update Amid Marvin Harrison Jr. Trade Rumors

The Indianapolis Colts would entertain a trade for Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., according to an ESPN report published Thursday.

General manager Chris Ballard’s team is 2-2 heading into Sunday’s game at Pittsburgh, and injuries have thinned an already limited receiving group.

“Sources told ESPN that the Cardinals are not shopping Harrison but other teams are still doing their due diligence on the third-year receiver,” Stephen Holder and Josh Weinfuss wrote. “Those include the Colts, with a source telling ESPN that they would entertain the idea of trading for Harrison, the son of Marvin Harrison Sr., the Hall of Famer who owns multiple Indianapolis receiving records.”

The league’s trade deadline is Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. Eastern, leaving more than a month for teams to decide whether they are buyers or sellers.

Indianapolis placed wide receiver Alec Pierce on injured reserve in late September after he aggravated a surgically repaired left heel. He must miss at least four games, and the earliest he can return is the Oct. 25 game at Minnesota.

Pierce, who signed a contract extension this year, had been the Colts’ main deep threat. He led the NFL in yards per catch in each of the past two seasons.

Josh Downs has become the leading pass-catcher in his absence. Downs has 17 receptions for 202 yards and no touchdowns through four games.

Explosive plays have been harder to come by without Pierce. The Colts have added depth, including a recent signing of former Giants receiver Darius Slayton, but the downfield element remains missing.

Harrison, taken fourth overall in the 2024 draft, has not produced at the level expected of a top pick. He has five catches for 85 yards and one touchdown on 12 targets this season.

As a rookie, he caught 62 passes for 885 yards and eight touchdowns. Last season, limited to 12 games, he had 41 receptions for 608 yards and four scores.

The Cardinals are 1-3. More targets have gone to tight end Trey McBride and receivers Michael Wilson and Kendrick Bourne than to Harrison.

Harrison said Thursday the speculation is not on his mind.

“Truthfully, I pay it no mind,” Harrison said. “I’m only focused on Detroit, helping the Cardinals win football games at the moment. So whatever rumors you’re talking about, I don’t pay it no mind.”

A trade to Indianapolis would send him to the franchise where his father set multiple receiving records during a Hall of Fame career.

Any serious offer would also test the Colts’ remaining draft capital. Indianapolis sent its 2026 and 2027 first-round picks to the New York Jets last fall to acquire cornerback Sauce Gardner.

Ballard has not commented publicly on the report. The situation is expected to stay under review as the deadline nears and Pierce’s return window becomes clearer.
