The Indianapolis Colts briefly entered the conversation surrounding Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., yet they have stepped aside as the Cardinals move toward completing a trade.

NFL insider Aaron Wilson confirmed that Indianapolis is not involved in active negotiations for the former fourth overall pick, ending speculation that the franchise might pursue a sentimental reunion with the son of one of its greatest players.

Harrison Jr.’s father, Hall of Fame wideout Marvin Harrison Sr., spent his entire 13-year career with the Colts, becoming the franchise’s all-time leader in receptions and receiving yards while helping power the Peyton Manning era.

That family connection made Indianapolis a logical name to surface once trade chatter intensified around the younger Harrison. ESPN previously indicated that the Colts had done their due diligence and would entertain the possibility of a deal. By Saturday, however, reports stated that the interest never advanced beyond preliminary checks.

The primary obstacle appears to have been cost. Arizona has sought at least a second-round selection, and potentially additional compensation, for Harrison Jr.

The Colts already lack their 2027 first-round pick after last year’s trade for cornerback Sauce Gardner, leaving them limited flexibility in future drafts.

Chappell noted that the asking price was likely too steep, and he also suggested that bringing Harrison Jr. to Indianapolis could create unrealistic expectations given the shadow of his father’s career.

Wilson separately reported that the Colts, along with the Kansas City Chiefs, are not trading for the receiver.

The decision comes as the Colts navigate a thinner receiving corps. Alec Pierce remains on injured reserve with a heel issue, and other options such as Darius Slayton and Ashton Dulin have dealt with availability questions heading into Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Josh Downs has been the most productive target through four games, while veterans including Keenan Allen and Laquon Treadwell provide experience.

Indianapolis sits at 2-2 after a win over the Washington Commanders, with the offense still searching for consistent explosive plays in the passing game.

Rather than surrender significant draft capital for a player who has posted only five catches for 85 yards and one touchdown in four games this season, the Colts appear content to evaluate their current group and address needs through other means.

Harrison Jr., who has 108 career receptions for 1,578 yards and 13 touchdowns across 33 games, will instead head elsewhere as the Cardinals finalize a deal.

For Indianapolis, the choice reflects a preference for measured roster building over a high-profile, high-cost addition tied to franchise history.
