Colorado’s Deion Sanders is Ready For College Football Season

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has brought a lot of attention and excitement to the program. After a successful stint at Jackson State, he was hired to reinvigorate a program that has been dormant for years.

Colorado entered the 2023 season finishing under the .500 mark in 16 out of 17 seasons. The only time they finished above the .500 mark was the COVID-19 shortened season when they went 4-2 and played in the Alamo Bowl, getting blown out 55-23 by Texas.

At the start of the 2023 season, it looked like the magic Deion Sanders had at Jackson State to Boulder. Colorado got off to a scorching hot start, winning their first three games of the season and getting ranked as high as No. 18.

The Buffalos opened the season by defeating No. 17 ranked TCU before beating Nebraska and in-state rival Colorado State. The hype was building but quickly extinguished as the Oregon Ducks blew the doors off of Colorado, winning 42-6 in the highly anticipated matchup.

That started a brutal stretch where injuries and the lack of depth on the roster began to take a toll. After the 3-0 start, Colorado would finish the season losing eight of their last nine games. It was a disappointing ending, but the confidence and swagger of Deion Sanders has not wavered.

Big things could be on the horizon for Colorado and Deion Sanders. He is hoping to not only have a more successful season and lead his team to a bowl game but will be focused on developing the draft stock of his son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

Shedeur is one of the highest-rated prospects heading into the college football season and will be in the running for a top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. If he plays up to his potential, he could be drafted even higher than his father was, as Deion Sanders was the fifth pick in the 1989 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons.
