Carson Schwesinger remains sidelined as the Cleveland Browns prepare for their preseason opener, leaving questions about the status of one of the defense’s most important young pieces.

The second-year linebacker, selected in the second round of the 2025 draft, has missed the bulk of training camp practices in Berea with what the team has only described in vague terms.

Head coach Todd Monken referred to the issue more than ten days ago as a “little minor injury,” yet Schwesinger has not returned to the field since, and there is still no confirmation on whether he will be available Saturday afternoon when Cleveland faces the Chicago Bears.

Schwesinger arrived with high expectations after a standout rookie season in which he recorded 156 tackles and two interceptions while earning Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year honors. He started 16 games and quickly established himself as a reliable presence in the middle of the defense.

With Myles Garrett sitting out the preseason debut for the first time since 2017 and Jared Verse stepping into a larger role, the Browns are leaning heavily on younger talent. Schwesinger was expected to be one of the central figures in that transition.

The lack of detail surrounding the injury is not unusual during the preseason, when teams face fewer reporting requirements. Still, the prolonged absence of a player of Schwesinger’s caliber has drawn attention.

Team reports have listed him among a handful of players who have missed time for various reasons, including defensive tackle Maliek Collins, who remains on the physically unable to perform list.

Insiders covering the club have noted that Schwesinger continues to work out independently and has been observed on the practice field watching sessions rather than receiving constant treatment.

Veteran reporter Tony Grossi has suggested the organization does not appear overly concerned, interpreting the player’s activity level as a sign he may be nearing a return after missing roughly ten practices.
