The Kansas City Chiefs’ standout quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, keeps shattering expectations year after year, and he’s just equaled a monumental NFL achievement previously held by Miami Dolphins icon Dan Marino.
In the Chiefs’ commanding win on “Monday Night Football,” broadcasters revealed that Mahomes has now reached his 46th game featuring at least three touchdown passes, aligning him precisely with Marino’s total over the initial nine years of the Hall of Famer’s tenure.
That’s precisely how the evening unfolded under the prime-time lights, with Mahomes firing three scoring strikes while accumulating 299 passing yards to draw even with Marino. Adding to the milestone magic, the dynamic Chiefs leader also eclipsed the 40,000-yard mark in career passing.
By hitting 40,000 passing yards across his opening nine NFL campaigns, Mahomes now stands alongside just one other all-time great who pulled off the same: Peyton Manning.
The 40,000 passing yards include the playoffs, but Mahomes is now next to Manning in that NFL feat.In essence, Mahomes is reinforcing the Chiefs’ status as perennial Super Bowl contenders who refuse to be dismissed. Despite stumbling to an 0-2 record early on, the squad has surged with victories in five of their past six contests.
Currently holding a 5-3 mark, Kansas City is well-positioned to seize control of the AFC West division and vie with the conference’s top-tier squads for supremacy.
The Chiefs face stiff challenges ahead in the coming fortnight, squaring off against the 5-2 Buffalo Bills followed by the 6-2 Denver Broncos. If they emerge victorious in both matchups, Kansas City would undoubtedly solidify its place as the AFC’s most formidable powerhouse.
It will be interesting to see what the coming weeks have in store for the Chiefs. They have shown signs of being a Super Bowl caliber team, but there have been games where they appeared to be in trouble.
With Mahomes leading the way, Kansas City will always have a chance. So far this season, he has been playing at an incredibly high level.
Throughout the first eight games of the 2025 season, Mahomes has completed 67 percent of his passes for 2,099 yards, 17 touchdowns, and four interceptions. He has also picked up 280 yards and scored four more touchdowns on the ground.
