The Kansas City Chiefs could definitely use some depth at the wide receiver position, as Rashee Rice is recovering from knee surgery and Xavier Worthy already has a checkered injury history.

The Chiefs do have an intriguing second-year receiver in Jalen Royals, and undrafted rookie Jeff Caldwell is interesting, as well. But they could certainly afford to add another proven option for Patrick Mahomes.

On that note, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox has tabbed Kansas City as a top potential trade destinations for New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, whose role in Foxborough has been largely compromised this offseason.

Boutte heads into the final year of his contract after posting 551 receiving yards last season, ranking second among Patriots wideouts and third among the team’s pass-catchers overall. That production came in a New England offense that advanced to Super Bowl LX behind young quarterback Drake Maye.

However, A.J. Brown is now poised to become the No. 1 receiver, assuming a role once held by Stefon Diggs. Meanwhile, the addition of Romeo Doubs further crowds the receiver room. Tight end Hunter Henry remains a reliable option as well. In that environment, Boutte’s path to consistent targets and the kind of statistical showcase that would boost his impending free-agency stock looks narrower.

Reports from earlier in the spring indicated the Patriots were open to dealing Boutte for the right return, with one league source suggesting a third-round pick as a realistic asking price.

A trade would allow New England to address other roster needs while giving Boutte a clearer opportunity to start and produce.

For Kansas City, the fit carries logical appeal. The Chiefs have long thrived by surrounding Mahomes with complementary skill-position talent capable of creating mismatches and stretching defenses.

Adding a young, ascending receiver who has already shown he can contribute in a competitive offense would provide another weapon without requiring a massive long-term commitment.

Boutte’s combination of size, contested-catch ability, and experience operating in a high-pressure scheme could translate well to Kansas City’s system. A change of scenery would also remove him from a crowded room and place him in an environment where the quarterback play and supporting cast elevate the ceiling of every skill player.

While nothing is imminent and the Patriots retain full control of Boutte’s rights for the coming season, the mere inclusion of the Chiefs on a short list of preferred destinations underscores how quickly roster dynamics can shift once training camps open and teams begin evaluating their true needs.

Whether a deal materializes remains to be seen. What is clear is that Boutte’s situation in New England has grown more complicated, and the Chiefs represent one franchise where a fresh start could benefit both player and team as the 2026 season approaches.
