With the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, the Chicago Sky selected LSU star Angel Reese. Along with No. 3 overall pick Kamilla Cardoso, the Sky now has one of the best frontcourt duos in the league to build around.
Angel Reese entered the spotlight after helping lead LSU to the Women’s National Championship in 2023. While their chance to repeat was thwarted in a highly anticipated rematch with Iowa and Caitlin Clark, Reese has still made quite a name for herself.
Off the court, she is looking to grow her name as the face of Women’s basketball for Reebok. She chose to sign with them over Nike for a few reasons, including the relationship that she has with Shaquille O’Neal, who now heads their basketball department.
On the court, Angel Reese is an intimidating force on both ends of the court. Over the last two seasons with LSU, she averaged 20.9 points, 14.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.3 blocks in 32.6 minutes pre game, stuffing the stat sheet on a nightly basis.
Now, she is looking to bring that two-way production to the WNBA with the Chicago Sky. In her first two games as a professional, Angel Reese has scored 13 points in each outing, grabbing nine rebounds in Game 1 and five in Game 2.
There will be an adjustment period to the WNBA from college basketball, but it isn’t something she is worried about. Instead, the league has to prepare for her, as she recently spoke about why she is going to be such a threat as a professional.
“I can guard all 5 positions, as you can see. I mean, I can switch on point guards & get steals. That’s just something I love to do,” Reese said, via user StayTrueSDot3 on X.
A fierce competitor, Angel Reese is only scratching the surface of her potential. Her versatility is something that the Chicago Sky are going to greatly benefit from, as she can fill several roles and be the anchor of their defensive game plan.
