Chicago Bears’ QB Trade Buzz Receives Tough Update

Tyson Bagent’s uneven afternoon in Green Bay may have undercut the quiet trade market that developed around the Chicago Bears backup earlier this year.

Filling in for Caleb Williams, who remains sidelined by a hamstring injury, Bagent completed just 12 of 21 passes for 87 yards and threw two interceptions before head coach Ben Johnson replaced him with Case Keenum early in the fourth quarter.

The Bears fell 31-7 to the Packers, and the limited production plus the early exit offered little for other clubs to evaluate positively as the November 10 trade deadline approaches.

As Garrett Klaus of Heavy.com noted, the outing stood in sharp contrast to Bagent’s previous start against the Jets, when he completed 25 of 34 passes for 268 yards in a 23-12 Chicago victory.

Klaus noted that general manager Ryan Poles had confirmed in February that other teams had inquired about trading for the undrafted quarterback, while Johnson had publicly grouped him among the league’s top 32 signal-callers.

A passer rating of 27.4 against Green Bay, however, is difficult to present to potential suitors seeking a reliable emergency option who can keep an offense competitive.

The performance does not erase earlier flashes, and there is no public sign that interest has evaporated, yet it supplies a recent sample that could reduce Chicago’s leverage if teams now view Bagent’s ceiling as more limited than previously believed.

The Bears face a practical complication beyond the one game.

Williams’ recovery timeline remains uncertain, and the organization has already shown it values Bagent enough to sign him to a two-year extension last summer that keeps him under contract through 2027 at a modest salary.

Trading him would return draft capital, but it would also force the club to identify another capable backup while Williams works back to full health.

Bagent’s mobility and prior competence in spot duty had made him an attractive asset for quarterback-needy teams; a game in which he was benched against a division rival gives those clubs a reason to lower their offers or wait for clearer evidence.

One poor start does not redefine a player’s trajectory, particularly for a 26-year-old with limited regular-season snaps. Bagent still has remaining weeks in which to demonstrate steadier command before the deadline.

For the moment, though, the Packers result gives the Bears a fresh data point that complicates any decision to move him and likely trims the return they could expect if they choose to do so.

Chicago will face the Atlanta Falcons next Sunday.
