Cavaliers Rumors: Donovan Mitchell Won’t Be Traded To This Team

Donovan Mitchell, Cleveland Cavaliers rumors

Hours after being eliminated from the 2024 NBA Playoffs, Cleveland Cavaliers rumors were already heating up involving Donovan Mitchell. The 2024 NBA offseason is going to be a massive one for the franchise, as several major moves will be made.

The future of head coach J.B. Bickerstaff has been brought up and there are going to be major changes on the roster. Based on Cavaliers rumors that have been floating around, their backcourt duo of Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell will be broken up.

Should the Cavaliers work out a long-term extension with Mitchell, Garland’s camp is going to ask for a trade. We will know what direction the franchise is leaning in as Mitchell is eligible for a massive contract extension.

There have been reports that he won’t be staying in Cleveland, which would result in him being on the block this offseason. But, he has given no indication he wants to leave the Cavaliers and would be passing up a ton of money doing so.

Alas, should he inform them he won’t be signing an extension, trade talks will ensue. As shared by Sam Amico via NBACentral on X, what Cleveland would be looking for in return for Donovan Mitchell has been revealed.

Also, one team will not be in the running as owner Dan Gilbert will not trade his All-Star to them. That team, according to Amico, is the Los Angeles Lakers, as Gilbert would never make a deal with them centered around Donovan Mitchell.

There are a lot of Cavaliers rumors to digest from that report. While the Lakers have Mitchell as their No. 1 target this offseason, Cleveland ownership isn’t going to be playing ball. Los Angeles can meet some of the criteria they are looking for, but not all of them.

Based on the report Amico shared, the Miami Heat fit the bill as a team the Cavaliers would negotiate with. Trading away an NBA All-Star is never easy, but getting back two young players and ample draft capital is a solid consolation.
