The Cleveland Browns, holding a 2-5 record and third place in the AFC North, travel to face the New England Patriots in Week 8 action. Fresh off a dominant 31-6 victory over the Miami Dolphins in Week 7, head coach Kevin Stefanski aims to secure back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Cleveland’s uneven performance has fueled speculation about Stefanski’s long-term stability with the franchise.

Fans have started growing frustrated with the production they have seen on the field. The Browns simply haven’t given people reason to believe in their vision for the present or future.

Any potential decision to part ways with the coach would ultimately rest with owner Jimmy Haslam. Yet, in a recent conversation with The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Haslam expressed strong support for his head coach.

“Kevin’s done a really good job with us, and we’ve had some tough breaks,” Haslam said. “A big trade we made didn’t work out, and you know, we’re all suffering from that. Kevin, I thought, really did a great job of rallying the troops last week at a really critical time. You find out about leaders when things are bad, not when they’re good, and he did a good job last week.”

The referenced trade involved quarterback Deshaun Watson, acquired in 2022. Watson has appeared in only 19 games for Cleveland since the deal.

This year, Stefanski has managed a rotating cast at quarterback, starting with veteran Joe Flacco and now with rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. Huntley was cut before the regular season, Flacco was dealt to the Cincinnati Bengals after five contests, and Gabriel has since claimed the starting role.

Hired in 2020, Stefanski has earned Associated Press Coach of the Year honors in 2020 and 2023 while posting an overall 42-49 mark. Even with the team trending toward consecutive sub-.500 campaigns, Haslam remains steadfast in his endorsement.

Kickoff from Gillette Stadium for the Browns’ Week 8 matchup against the New England Patriots is set for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, with Fox providing national coverage.
