The Milwaukee Brewers have moved one of their higher-ranked pitching prospects up another level in the minor leagues.
Right-hander Josh Knoth was promoted from High-A Wisconsin to Double-A Biloxi, according to minor league transaction records. The 6-foot-1 pitcher now joins the Shuckers after starting the year in rookie ball and then advancing through High-A.
Knoth ranks as Milwaukee’s ninth-best prospect and third-best pitching prospect on the latest MLB Pipeline list. The Brewers drafted him 33rd overall out of Patchogue-Medford High School in New York and signed him for $2 million, a figure below the assigned slot value.
He made his professional debut in 2024 at the Class A level. That season he finished 4-6 with a 4.48 ERA across 21 starts.
Knoth missed all of 2025 while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He began 2026 in rookie ball before earning the first of two promotions this year.
This season he is 5-3 with a 4.34 ERA in 19 appearances, 17 of them starts. The latest move gives him a chance to finish the year at Double-A.
The promotion comes as the Brewers wrap up a three-game road series against the New York Mets on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET.
Knoth still has notable command questions that evaluators have flagged since his return from elbow surgery. In his 2024 campaign he walked 11.1 percent of the batters he faced.
“After walking 11.1 percent of his batters faced in ’24, Knoth projects for fringy control, and that’s if the command holds up post-TJ. He’ll still only be 20 years for much of the ’26 season, and the stuff is intriguing enough to make him a breakout candidate if he can maintain the quality of the arsenal over a likely innings limit. Knoth’s upside remains in the middle of a future Milwaukee rotation,” the profile read.
Scouts still like the raw ingredients in his mix. His fastball sits 91-95 mph with good ride at the top of the zone, and both his curveball and slider show plus potential.
“Knoth showed a 91-95 mph four-seamer that he could blaze by Single-A hitters with impressive ride to the top of the zone. Both his upper-70s curveball and mid-80s slider looked like potential plus pitches with exceptional spin rates, though the latter was better at getting batters from both sides to expand the zone the way Knoth worked it down and glove side,” the scouting profile added.
If he throws more strikes at the higher level, Knoth could put himself in position to reach the majors as soon as next season. Milwaukee already views him as a possible mid-rotation starter down the road.
The Brewers themselves sit atop the standings with an 82-51 record. They evened the Mets series Wednesday with an 8-1 victory.
Jacob Misiorowski is scheduled to start Thursday as he seeks his first win against New York. The right-hander is 13-5 with a 1.68 ERA in 24 starts this season.
After the Mets series ends, Milwaukee returns home Friday to open a three-game set against the Texas Rangers. The club will look to keep its strong run going while its young pitching depth continues to climb the organizational ladder.
