Brewers Add 27-Year-Old Pitcher Before Dodgers Series

Milwaukee Brewers
Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff pours champagne on broadcaster Bob Uecker, right, and manager Pat Murphy after the team clinched the 2024 NL Central Division championship.

The Milwaukee Brewers recalled left-hander Colton Gordon from Double-A Biloxi on Thursday, according to the MiLB transaction log, adding a familiar arm as they prepare to open the National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The move, posted October 8, lists Gordon as recalled from the Biloxi Shuckers. It lands on the eve of a rematch of last year’s NLCS, with Milwaukee coming off a 103-59 regular season and a division title in the National League Central.

The log does not spell out a corresponding roster move or Gordon’s expected role, but the timing puts him in the organization mix for a series that will test the Brewers’ pitching depth over as many as seven games.

Gordon, 27, is not a stranger to the big-league club. Milwaukee acquired him from the Houston Astros on July 15 along with right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. and cash, sending minor-league outfielder Jadyn Fielder the other way.

The Brewers recalled him from Triple-A Nashville on September 18 for bullpen help, then optioned him on September 23 after he worked five innings in relief.

He is now coming back from Biloxi rather than Nashville.

His 2026 major-league line is thin and uneven: five appearances, one start, an 0-1 record and an 8.79 ERA over 14.1 innings with 12 strikeouts. The minor-league body of work is larger.

Across 24 appearances and 23 starts in the minors this year, he went 7-8 with a 4.11 ERA in 124.2 innings and 103 strikeouts. Over his brief big-league career he is 6-5 with a 5.83 ERA in 100.1 innings.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, the St. Petersburg, Florida, native throws and bats left-handed and remains under team control through 2028.

That profile fits the way Milwaukee has used him since the trade: a left-handed starter who can also absorb bulk innings out of the bullpen.

He is not the headliner of a rotation built to beat the Dodgers, but postseason series often turn on the sixth and seventh arms — the pitcher who can cover multiple innings when a starter is knocked out early, or who can face a left-handed pocket in the middle of the Los Angeles order.

Whether Gordon makes the NLCS roster, or simply gives the staff another option if the series lengthens, is a decision the transaction log itself does not answer.

What it does confirm is that the Brewers brought him back from Biloxi on the day they turn their attention fully to Los Angeles.

For a club that has spent the season collecting usable pitching, the recall is another small piece of the same plan.
