The Boston Red Sox released right-handed pitcher Austin Ehrlicher from their Single-A affiliate during their ongoing series against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Fenway Park.

The Greenville Drive, the Red Sox’s Low-A club, parted ways with the 23-year-old on Wednesday, according to an announcement reported by MLB.com.

“Greenville Drive released RHP Austin Ehrlicher,” the league’s official site stated.

Ehrlicher never reached the major league roster during his time in the organization. In six appearances this season at the Single-A level, he posted an 0-2 record and a 6.94 earned-run average.

The move came amid a series of roster adjustments across the Red Sox’s minor league system. Andrew Parker of SoxProspects.com detailed the changes.

“Flurry of Red Sox minor league roster moves today: – RHP Griffin Kilander promoted to Portland – RHP Barrett Morgan promoted to Greenville – RHP Alex Kranzler assigned to Salem – LHP Carson Revay assigned to Salem – RHP Austin Ehrlicher has been released.”

Boston selected Ehrlicher in the 18th round of the 2022 MLB Draft. He signed with the club the following year.

Whether another organization will claim the young pitcher before the 2026 season concludes remains to be seen. Releases of this nature often open opportunities for free-agent signings or minor league invitations elsewhere.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox continued their series with Arizona. They took the first two contests, including a 9-4 victory on Tuesday, and aimed for a sweep in the finale.

The club entered the matchup sitting third in the American League East with a 68-58 record through 126 games. After a sluggish beginning to the year, Boston has shown marked improvement in recent months.

In their last 10 games, the Red Sox went 4-6. They hold a 31-31 mark in 62 home contests at Fenway Park.

Following the Diamondbacks series, Boston has an off day scheduled for Thursday. The team then prepares to host the San Francisco Giants beginning Friday night.

The release of a lower-level prospect rarely shifts the big-league outlook in the short term. Yet it reflects the constant evaluation process that defines player development systems across Major League Baseball.

Ehrlicher’s path began as a late-round selection with limited immediate expectations. His statistical line this season suggested struggles with consistency at the Single-A level, a common hurdle for young arms refining command and secondary pitches.

Front offices routinely make these decisions to free roster space for other prospects or to allow released players a chance to find a better fit. For Ehrlicher, the next chapter depends on interest from other clubs seeking pitching depth in the minors.

The Red Sox, for their part, remain focused on the stretch run. Their improved play has kept them in the conversation within a competitive division, even as they balance major league results with the long-term pipeline.

As the organization continues its series at home and looks ahead to the Giants, the quiet departure of a 23-year-old right-hander serves as a reminder of the business side of the game that unfolds daily beyond the bright lights of Fenway.
