Throughout the 2023-24 NBA season, the Boston Celtics have been the best team. They punctuated that title on Monday night, defeating the Dallas Mavericks 106-88 to win the 2024 NBA Finals.

It was a dominating performance throughout the series, which ended in five games. Outside of one strong performance in Game 4 by the Dallas Mavericks, this was a series dominated by the Boston Celtics in every facet.

That last game in Dallas was the worst game of the season for the Celtics. They didn’t dwell on it long, returning the favor and blowing the Mavericks out in the final game of the season. In the clinching victory, they were led by their star duo, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.

Brown, who won the NBA Finals MVP award, scored 21 points with eight rebounds and six assists. Tatum saved the best for last, having his strongest performance with an efficient 31 points, eight rebounds and 11 assists.

“I mean, this is going to be a night that I will remember for the rest of my life, from the game, the celebration, these moments,” Tatum said. “Over the last couple years, we had some tough losses at home in the playoffs. We’ve lost the NBA championship at home in front of our fans. We had a chance to beat Miami in Game 6 a few years ago and lost that one.

“So to have a big win — the biggest win that you could have in front of your home crowd — I felt like that was really important to go out there and do everything in my power to make sure we won this game tonight.”

The Boston Celtics led by as many as 21 points on Monday night. They took control of the game early and never relented, finding success once again in shutting down their former teammate, Kyrie Irving.

Irving shot only 5-of-16 in Game 5, scoring 15 points with nine assists and three rebounds. He struggled mightily all series in Boston, as he was unable to quiet the crowd he once called home.

With his sidekick putting together underwhelming performances, there wasn’t much for Luka Doncic to do. Boston was a difficult matchup for the Dallas Mavericks, possessing multiple bodies they could throw at him all night to wear him down.

It was a valiant effort from Doncic, who scored 28 points on 12-of-25 from the field with 12 rebounds and five assists. But, it ultimately wasn’t enough to get his team over the hump against a Boston Celtics squad that looked destined to win the trophy from Day 1 of the season.
