The Chicago Bears have swung big at the trade deadline, landing All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons from the Tennessee Titans in a move that signals clear intent to fortify a contending roster.

Per reports from Tom Pelissero, Chicago is sending two first-round picks and a fourth-round selection to Tennessee for the 29-year-old, with Adam Schefter noting that the fourth-rounder is a 2027 pick and the Bears will also receive a 2028 fifth-rounder in return.

For a team sitting at 5-2 and second in a stacked NFC North, the addition arrives at a pivotal moment.

Simmons has been a wrecking force through seven games this season, recording 38 total tackles, six tackles for loss, four sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and four pass deflections.

That production has placed him squarely in the Defensive Player of the Year conversation on a Titans team that has struggled to 1-6.

In Chicago, he joins a defense under coordinator Dennis Allen that has already ranked among the league’s better units against the run while keeping points allowed in check.

The interior line, led by veterans such as Grady Jarrett and Kentavius Street, has lacked a consistent disruptor of Simmons’ caliber.

His arrival immediately upgrades both the pass rush and the run front for a club that has shown it can win games when the defense creates pressure.

The financial piece is manageable in the near term. Simmons signed a three-year, $105.8 million extension with Tennessee back in June that included $100 million in guarantees and established him as the highest-paid defensive tackle in the league.

The Bears inherit the remaining portion of his $13 million base salary for 2026, while the Titans absorb roughly $21 million in dead money the following year.

General manager Ryan Poles has accepted the long-term cap implications that come with a player of this magnitude, especially with quarterback Caleb Williams’ eventual extension on the horizon. In exchange, Chicago gains a proven difference-maker who can set the tone up front for years.

A 2019 first-round pick out of Mississippi State, Simmons has built a career as one of the most complete interior defenders in football, blending power against the run with relentless pressure on the quarterback.

On a Bears team chasing the undefeated Vikings and looking to solidify its playoff position under head coach Ben Johnson, his presence raises the ceiling of the entire defense.

The cost in future draft capital is steep, yet for a franchise seeking to capitalize on its current window, the move represents the kind of calculated aggression that can separate contenders from the pack in a competitive division.
