The Baltimore Ravens terminated the practice-squad contract of linebacker Jamon Johnson on Thursday, clearing a spot to bring Carl Jones back, according to the NFL transaction wire.
The move is a corresponding roster adjustment rather than a broader overhaul of the linebacker room. Baltimore re-signed Jones, 25, to the practice squad the same day and released Johnson to make room.
Jones, an undrafted free agent out of UCLA in 2024, had spent most of his early career with the Chicago Bears before the Ravens claimed him last December. Baltimore had cut him earlier this week.
In 2026, he has appeared in two games and recorded two tackles.
Johnson, 24, is a Hyattsville, Maryland, native who played at Kentucky. He is listed at 6-foot, 246 pounds and entered the league as an undrafted player.
Green Bay signed him to a future contract in January 2026 after he had spent time on the Packers’ practice squad.
He appeared in two regular-season games with Green Bay, finishing with 10 tackles, three of them solo, and one pass defensed before the Packers waived him on April 17.
Baltimore signed him as a free agent on August 8, giving him a training-camp look as linebacker depth.
A thumb injury in the preseason game against Minnesota on August 22 limited him, and the Ravens waived him on August 30 as they trimmed the roster to 53.
He cleared waivers without an injury designation and was re-signed to the practice squad on September 12, the same day Baltimore elevated Jones and wide receiver Chris Moore.
His second stint in Baltimore lasted less than three weeks. Johnson did not appear in a regular-season game for the Ravens.
With Jones returning, the club’s 17-man practice squad now includes Rayshaun Benny, Xavier Guillory, Adisa Isaac, Gerard Lichtenhan, David Olajiga, Ty Pezza, Kaimon Rucker, Jonathan Ward, AJ Arcuri, Nick Vannett, Chuma Edoga, Lardarius Webb, Gage Larvadain, Amani Oruwariye, Andre James, Kyle Hergel, and Jones.
For Johnson, the cut returns him to the open market at a point in the season when clubs are still shuffling practice-squad depth.
He has limited regular-season experience, but the two games and 10 tackles with Green Bay, plus a full training camp with Baltimore, give him a recent résumé other teams can evaluate if they need linebacker help.
