The Baltimore Ravens announced Wednesday that they have signed cornerback Amani Oruwariye to the practice squad, adding another experienced body to a reserve group that now sits over the usual limit and may require a corresponding move.
The 30-year-old defensive back is familiar with the organization, having spent time on Baltimore’s practice squad last year and appearing in one game, where he recorded a single tackle.
Oruwariye first reached the NFL as a fifth-round pick of the Detroit Lions in 2019, selected 146th overall out of Penn State.
He signed a four-year rookie contract that included a modest signing bonus and spent his early professional seasons in Detroit.
His most productive campaign arrived in 2021, when he intercepted six passes for the Lions, a total that highlighted the ball skills scouts had noticed during his college career.
After finishing that rookie deal, Oruwariye tested unrestricted free agency for the first time and agreed to a one-year contract with the New York Giants. The arrangement ended quickly when the Giants released him.
He then signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the 2023 season, later joined the Dallas Cowboys ahead of 2024, and landed with the Tennessee Titans in May of the following year.
Tennessee cut him among its final roster reductions before the 2025 season, after which Baltimore added him to the practice squad.
The Ravens subsequently signed him to a futures contract heading into 2026, and he has since moved on and off the practice unit.
The latest signing returns him to that group alongside a mix of younger developmental players and veterans.
For a corner who once posted a six-interception season, the opportunity keeps him in a competitive environment where an injury or performance dip on the active roster could create an opening.
Baltimore has frequently used the practice squad to retain players with starting experience who can contribute on special teams or provide depth in the secondary.
Oruwariye’s path since leaving Detroit has been a series of short-term stops, yet the 2021 interception total remains the clearest evidence of what he can produce when given consistent snaps.
Whether this latest addition leads to another elevation during the 2026 season is uncertain, but it ensures a proven ball hawk remains available as the Ravens continue to shape their roster.
